JULIA PARSENIOS

MISSIONARY BIO

OCMC Missionary Julia Parsenios

Julia is the daughter of Father George and Presbytera Maureen Parsenios and has two brothers. Growing up in Central New Jersey, she felt very strongly about being involved with the church. She was always participating in church youth events and spent her summers at Antiochian Village Summer Camp. Julia attended Fordham University, studying English. Throughout her time at Fordham, she studied abroad in Athens, Greece, igniting her desire to live in an Orthodox environment. From there, she completed a Semester of Faith at Hellenic College Holy Cross, taking classes such as Byzantine Chant and Ancient Greek, and further felt a call to pursue ministry work.

During her Semester of Faith, Julia went on the Holy Cross annual spring break trip to Project Mexico. She fell in love with the service work there and submitted a late application for the internship program. The following summer, she was a homebuilding intern, and she further felt called to mission work. After completing her bachelor’s degree in English at Fordham University, Julia committed to working at Saint Innocent Orphanage, specifically with the new infants at the San Felipe Casa Cuna San Felipe infant orphanage (house of cribs). Now as an Orthodox Christian Mission Center missionary, she plans to volunteer there for the next year or so and feels very excited to participate in the thriving Orthodox community of Northern Mexico.
